This concession marks the latest addition to Albayrak Group’s African operations. Since entering the continent in 2014 with the operation of Mogadishu Port in Somalia, the company has secured port management agreements in countries such as Guinea, Gambia, and the Republic of Congo.
The inclusion of Malabo and Bata Ports brings the group’s African footprint to eight countries. The ports are expected to undergo upgrades and modernization to improve their capacity and efficiency for regional and international trade.
Agreement Overview
The concession was awarded through an international tender process. Representatives at the signing ceremony included members of Albayrak Group’s leadership and Equatorial Guinea’s government officials, including Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua and ministers responsible for transport and finance.
Development Plans
Under the agreement, Albayrak Group will begin operations at the ports and plan to upgrade their infrastructure over a 25-year period. In addition to this concession, the company is preparing to begin operations at Sanyang Port in Gambia in 2024 under a 30-year agreement.
This development reflects ongoing collaboration between Türkiye and African nations, particularly in infrastructure and logistics. The modernization of Malabo and Bata Ports is anticipated to support Equatorial Guinea’s regional trade activities.
