Authorities Expand Baltic Cable Damage Investigation

Authorities expand their probe into the Chinese bulker Yi Peng 3 suspected of damaging Baltic Sea submarine cables, with German, Swedish, and Danish vessels monitoring the ship.

The investigation into the Chinese bulker Yi Peng 3, suspected of damaging two submarine cables in the Baltic Sea, has intensified. German and Swedish Coast Guard vessels joined the Danish Navy in monitoring the vessel, which remains anchored since November 19.

The German patrol ship Bad Düben and Swedish patrol vessel Poseidon are now stationed near Yi Peng 3, alongside Denmark’s HDMS Hvidbjørnen. Swedish authorities confirmed they are conducting a preliminary investigation and plan to follow the vessel upon departure.

Meanwhile, multiple naval vessels, including Germany’s Bamberg and Sweden’s HSwMS Belos, are examining the damage site east in the Baltic Sea. These developments come after earlier scrutiny of the Turkish bulker Fortune Express, which was cleared after inspection.

Authorities in Germany, Sweden, and Finland have launched investigations into suspected sabotage, with officials leaving no avenue unexplored.
