The ship was traveling from Trabzon to Bandırma when the issue occurred. The Coastal Safety Directorate quickly sent help by sending tugboat KURTARMA-10 and rescue boat KEGM-8 to assist the stranded ship.

As a safety precaution, all ship traffic through the Istanbul Strait has been paused for now.

Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety stated the following:

"Our Pilot, KURTARMA-10 Tugboat and KEGM-8 Fast Rescue Boat were immediately dispatched to the scene for the 64 m cargo ship BRABUS which had a rudder failure at the northern entrance of the Bosphorus while sailing from Trabzon to Bandırma."
