CMA CGM has announced a new port venture in Morocco, strengthening its presence in one of Africa’s fastest-growing container markets. The French shipping giant has partnered with Marsa Maroc to operate half of the new east terminal at Nador West Med Port in the country’s northeast. Once fully operational, the terminal will have a 1.2 million TEU capacity.
Morocco aims to replicate the success of Tanger Med Port—the largest container terminal in the Mediterranean—with Nador West Med positioned as a second regional hub about 250 kilometers east of Tanger. Analysts at Alphaliner noted the strategic move aligns with the country’s vision of building another key logistics hub in the West Med.
CMA CGM already operates terminals at Eurogate Tanger and Somaport in Casablanca, solidifying its influence across Morocco's expanding port infrastructure.
