Essberger Group Marks Milestone with LNG Tanker Christening

German shipowner John T. Essberger Group recently conducted a christening ceremony for two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel chemical tankers.

The event, held on June 21, 2024, marked a significant milestone as the company celebrated its 100th anniversary in the chemical tanker shipping industry. The two latest vessels, named Eberhart Essberger and Heinrich Essberger, are stainless steel dual-fuel chemical tankers, part of a series of four newbuilds constructed in China. These ships, ordered in 2021 from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard with options for four more units, follow the christening of Liselotte Essberger in December 2023 at the Altona cruise terminal in the Port of Hamburg.

All four vessels feature dual-fuel LNG propulsion and hold a certified Finnish/Swedish 1A ice class. MAN Energy Solutions, a German engine manufacturer, supplied the integrated HyProp ECO propulsion systems for these ships. The new vessels are designed to optimize hull efficiency and equipment, achieving a notable 30% improvement in energy efficiency. They are also equipped for shore power connections during cargo operations.
