The 55-meter vessel, with a cargo capacity of 400 tons, is designed to transport small deck cargoes within the urban environment of Paris. It features a power system supplied by ABB Marine & Ports, including two 200 kW hydrogen fuel cells from Ballard, and carries 300 kilograms of compressed hydrogen, sufficient for seven days of operation between refills.
The Zulu 06, built as part of the EU-funded FLAGSHIPS initiative, aims to demonstrate a sustainable, clean transport model for the city. The project is a major milestone for river transport and energy transition in France, with significant support from both public and private stakeholders. François Durovray, France’s Minister of Transport, attended the christening event, highlighting the vessel’s role in advancing green mobility.
The next vessel in the FLAGSHIPS program, the FPS Waal, will transform a conventional inland container ship into a zero-emissions vessel for the Rhine.
