The threat of a strike at Indian government ports has been averted as a new five-year labour agreement received final approval. The agreement, known as the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee (BWNC) Settlement, was reached between port management and the country’s six major dockworker unions.
The Ministry of Shipping confirmed the green light for implementing the BWNC settlement, which includes enhanced wage and pension rules. All 12 major port authorities have been instructed to implement the updated contract. Union sources and local industry stakeholders, including shippers and transport service providers, welcomed the resolution to prevent disruption and maintain the smooth flow of goods.
