The incident occurred on August 15th, with the ship's cargo collapse happening late Thursday off Richards Bay.
The CMA CGM Belem, a vessel equipped with a wind shield and delivered from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard earlier this year, has faced significant challenges due to the severe weather. In response, SAMSA has issued a navigational warning to all sailing vessels and called on the public to report any sightings of the floating containers.
This incident marks the second container spill involving the French shipping line CMA CGM in just a month. Last month, the 18,000 TEU CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin lost 40 containers off the east coast of South Africa.
