A Caribbean cruise aboard the Sky Princess ended in tragedy last Saturday when a 48-year-old American woman attempted to jump overboard as the ship returned to Port Everglades.

The eight-day voyage, which departed on December 15, included stops at Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Princess Cays, the cruise line’s private Bahamian resort.

Princess Cruises confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing deep sadness over the passenger's passing. The woman fell to a lower deck, where she was quickly rescued, and shipboard personnel provided emergency medical care. Despite their efforts, she could not be revived.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the guest’s family and friends during this profoundly difficult time. Grief support services are being offered to those affected,” the statement read.

The woman’s identity has not been disclosed, but reports suggest she was traveling with her family. Princess Cruises is working closely with local and federal authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
