Tragedy struck near Marsa Alam in the Red Sea when the Sea Story, a tourist boat carrying 44 people, capsized in rough weather. Egyptian authorities have rescued five survivors and recovered four bodies, but seven individuals, including two Britons, remain unaccounted for.
The vessel sank early Monday after being hit by a large wave amid high winds and rough seas. A distress signal was issued at 05:30 local time, but the boat sank within minutes. Survivors were pulled from the water by military personnel and a nearby tourist vessel.
The yacht was on a five-day diving trip when it encountered winds of up to 43 mph and waves reaching 13 feet. Despite passing a safety inspection in March, the incident has raised concerns about maritime activity during extreme weather.
The rescued passengers, all reported to be in good health, are staying at a local hotel as the search for the missing continues.
