Dutch offshore services provider Boskalis is set to welcome the Windpiper, the largest subsea rock installation (SRI) vessel in the industry, to its fleet in 2026. The vessel, currently under development, will be a converted newbuild, measuring 227 meters in length and 40 meters in width. With a total installed power exceeding 31,000 kW and a cargo capacity of 45,500 metric tons, Windpiper is expected to double Boskalis’ SRI capacity, solidifying its position as the industry's largest player.

Scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026, Windpiper will initially focus on offshore wind projects in Northwest Europe. The vessel will be equipped with an inclined fall pipe, designed to protect offshore structures such as wind turbine foundations, and will feature a moonpool for fall pipe installation.

Built for optimal performance in harsh offshore conditions, Windpiper will have seven thrusters and DP2 certification. Additionally, it will offer over a hundred single-occupancy cabins for crew comfort.

Last year, Boskalis enhanced its fleet with the addition of the Seapiper, a new SRI vessel featuring an inclined fallpipe to extend its range. The company also added a versatile DP2 vessel for offshore geophysical and geotechnical surveys.
