Ukraine’s DTEK Group has received its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from the United States, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s energy security. The LNG cargo, which arrived on December 27, 2024, at the DESFA-operated Revithoussa LNG terminal in Greece, contained approximately 100 million cubic meters of gas (1 Terawatt hour or TWh) and was transported aboard the Gaslog Savannah.

In collaboration with Greek and other partners, DTEK plans to regasify the LNG and deliver it through both the European Union and Ukrainian gas networks. The shipment was purchased by DTEK’s subsidiary, D.Trading, and is expected to be the first of many LNG deliveries from the United States.

DTEK aims to expand its LNG operations into Northern Europe and the Baltics, with the shipment representing a major milestone in its ongoing effort to reduce reliance on Russian energy sources.

DTEK’s CEO, Maxim Timchenko, emphasized the strategic importance of this delivery:

“The arrival of this LNG cargo is a clear signal of DTEK’s determination to play its part in strengthening Ukraine and Europe’s energy security. Cargoes like this are not only providing the region with a flexible and secure source of power, but are further eroding russia’s influence over our energy system. We are very grateful to the United States for the strategic contribution it is making to Europe’s energy security with such shipments.”

The shipment follows a heads of agreement (HOA) signed between D.Trading and Venture Global in June, ensuring future LNG supply from Plaquemines and CP2 facilities to support Ukraine’s long-term energy needs.
