The Canadian-flagged bulk carrier M/V Tim S Dool has been successfully refloated after running aground on Crysler Shoal in the St. Lawrence River on November 23, 2024. The 57-year-old vessel, owned by Algoma Central Corporation, was carrying wheat grain through U.S. waters near Massena, New York.

The grounding occurred southwest of the Eisenhower Lock and remained stable outside the navigation channel throughout the incident. After three weeks aground, a salvage attempt and cargo lightering operation successfully freed the vessel just before 8 a.m. on December 6. It was moved to Wilson Hill Anchorage for inspection.

Michael Folsom of the Seaway Ship Watchers Network reported the refloating operation, which included unloading grain into four barges. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries or environmental contamination.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, and St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation coordinated the response to the incident. The investigation into the cause of the grounding is ongoing.

Seaway traffic has remained unaffected and continues to flow through the area.
