Dutch shipbuilder GS Projects has commissioned Damen Marine Components (DMC) to supply steering, control, and propulsion systems for four new dry cargo vessels being built at its Waterhuizen shipyard in the Netherlands.

The 6,250 dwt vessels are being developed in collaboration with Groot Ship Design and Ship and Steelbuilding (SaS) for Dutch shortsea operator Longship, with an option for four additional units. The ships will measure over 100 meters long, 15.5 meters wide, and feature a 6.2-meter design draft.

DMC will equip the vessels with its plug-and-play Piston RAM-type steering systems, Barke rudders, and Optima nozzles, designed to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs. The ships will also meet Lloyd’s Register classification and Finnish-Swedish 1A ice class standards.

The first vessel is expected to be delivered in early 2026. Leo van Zon, DMC Area Sales Manager, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing DMC's readiness to support installation at the shipyard.

Earlier this year, DMC also secured a contract with China’s BYD to supply rudder systems for four LNG-powered car carriers, highlighting its growing footprint in advanced maritime solutions.
