EU Approves New Sanctions on Russian Shadow Tankers

The EU’s latest sanctions target Russia's shadow fleet, Chinese drone suppliers, and third-country vessels aiding Moscow. Final approval is expected Monday.

European Union ambassadors have agreed on a 15th package of sanctions against Russia over its ongoing war in Ukraine. The new measures target Russia's shadow tanker fleet and Chinese companies supplying drones to Moscow.

The sanctions, which require approval from EU foreign ministers on Monday, will also apply to vessels from third countries aiding Russia and add over 50 individuals and 30 entities to the blacklist.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the decision, stating, "I welcome the adoption of our 15th package of sanctions, targeting in particular Russia's shadow fleet."

The package includes restrictions on 45 tankers and brings the total number of sanctioned individuals and entities to 2,200, all of whom face travel bans and asset freezes across the EU.
