Is the South China Sea on the Brink of War? Is the South China Sea on the Brink of War?

Houthi forces launched a missile attack on the Anadolu S, a Turkish bulk carrier owned by Istanbul-based Oras Shipping, in the Red Sea on November 18.

The 52,200 dwt vessel was en route 46 kilometers west of Muha, Yemen, when the missile fell into the sea, approximately 500 meters from the ship's stern. The ship’s captain had been alerted to a potential attack via VHF Channel 16 moments earlier and had begun adjusting the vessel's course to evade danger.

Captain Salih Zeki Çakır, Chairman of Oras Shipping, confirmed that the vessel and crew were unharmed. "There’s no issue at the moment. The captain is working to distance the vessel from the hazardous area," he said.

The Anadolu S had departed from Egypt's Port Said and was bound for Pakistan’s Port Qasim. It continues on its planned route without further disruptions.
