Officials have announced a new salvage plan to refloat the Tim S. Dool, a 225-meter cargo ship that ran aground in the St. Lawrence River near Morrisburg, Ontario, on November 23.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation confirmed that lightering operations—reducing the vessel's load—are set to begin by the end of the week of December 9, pending the arrival of necessary resources.
Earlier attempts to refloat the ship with three tugboats were unsuccessful, but no injuries or environmental damage have been reported. The vessel, owned by Algoma Central Corporation, has been in service since 1967, primarily operating in the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes.
