Dubai has been named the safest cruise ship stopover, according to a new study by travel insurance company InsureMyTrip. Analyzing 52 global cruise destinations, the study ranked cities based on factors such as crime rates, hospital quality, and cruise-related safety incidents.

Dubai earned the top spot, thanks to its low crime index, excellent hospitals, and only two recorded safety incidents between December 2023 and November 2024. The city welcomed over 280,000 cruise passengers last year.

Phuket, Thailand, ranked second, with two cruise-related incidents recorded but a slightly higher crime rate than Dubai. Roatán Island, Honduras, followed in third place, offering top-rated hospitals but with six cruise-related incidents. Portugal’s Funchal and Colombia’s Cartagena rounded out the top five.

On the other end of the spectrum, Belize City had the lowest safety score, with 10 incidents reported and high crime rates. Cities like Hamburg, Germany, and Loreto, Mexico, also received low safety rankings due to factors such as subpar hospital ratings. Cozumel, Mexico, recorded the highest number of safety incidents, totaling 12.

InsureMyTrip’s director, Sara Boisvert, emphasized that this study serves as a valuable tool for travelers planning their cruises, helping them navigate safety concerns with ease.
