Turkey and Greece Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Enhance Maritime Cooperation

The Turkish Chamber of Shipping and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 6, 2024, in Piraeus, Greece. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation and facilitate dialogue on shared maritime interests between the two countries.

The MoU was signed by Tamer Kıran, Chairman of the Board of the Turkish Chamber of Shipping, and Dr. George D. Pateras, Chairman of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping.

Under the agreement, both chambers aim to:

  • Establish contact points to address technical or administrative issues encountered by members at ports in Turkey and Greece,
  • Share information on maritime-related matters, and
  • Foster stronger ties and cooperation on common maritime topics.

Following the signing ceremony, Tamer Kıran and the Turkish delegation met with Constantinos Capetanakis, Chairman of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA). Discussions focused on the relationship between the Turkish Chamber of Shipping and IBIA.

The delegation included Recep Düzgit, Vice Chairman of the Board; Barış Türkmen, Board Member; Emin Eminoğlu, Vice Chairman of the Assembly; Mustafa Aslan, Assembly Member; Ufuk Erinç, IBIA Board Member; and Ender Kahya, Deputy Secretary General of the Turkish Chamber of Shipping.
