On 7 September at 2 PM, MV Navios Celestial, a Panama-flagged ship carrying DAP fertilizer, collided with the anchored Liberian-flagged MV Friendly Island, which was unloading lentils at Alpha Anchorage, Chattogram, Bangladesh.

A minor collision occurred at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port this afternoon involving two bulk carriers, MV Navios Celestial and MV Friendly Island.

The incident took place around 2:00 PM at Alpha Anchorage, when MV Navios Celestial and, a Panama-flagged vessel carrying 44,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer, dragged its anchor and struck the Liberian-flagged MV Friendly Island, which was anchored and unloading 27,000 tonnes of lentils.

According to Md Omar Faruk, Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), both ships sustained minor structural damage, but no injuries, water ingress, or pollution were reported. The vessels have since repositioned and are now safely anchored.

A committee will be formed to investigate the cause of the collision, and local agents, along with the P&I clubs of both vessels, are working to settle compensation matters.
