A Swedish cargo ship caught fire off the coast of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea on the evening of 28 November, triggering an immediate rescue operation.

The Swedish Maritime Administration reported that the vessel’s crew issued a Mayday call at 9:20 PM while traveling from Poland to Karlshamn, Sweden. Danish and Swedish rescue teams coordinated efforts due to Bornholm’s proximity to Sweden.

A helicopter from Kristianstad was the first to arrive at the scene, where it became clear that the fire was concentrated in the bow of the ship. All crew members were promptly hoisted to safety by the Swedish Maritime Administration’s helicopter.

Rescue leader Emma Nykvist stated, “We’re relieved that the operation went smoothly and quickly, and that all crew members are unharmed.”

The rescue operation was successfully completed without injuries to the crew.
