The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's EnCon Police announced that one man's body was discovered around 12:10 p.m. on Friday, with the second man found around 4:30 p.m. on the same day.
The incident occurred when a 31-foot motorboat carrying nine friends collided with a jetty at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Labor Day as they were returning from Block Island, according to DEEP officials. Christopher Hallahan, 34, from Westbrook, was found deceased inside the vessel. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled his death as an accidental drowning.
Six other passengers were taken to the hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition. Authorities believe this individual may have been operating the boat at the time of the crash, though this has not been confirmed.
The identities of the two deceased men have not yet been released pending family notification. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death for both individuals.
