U.S. Coast Guard Opens Investigation into Titan Submersible Tragedy

The photo of the Titan submersible sitting at the bottom of the ocean following its catastrophic implosion last year was shared by the US Coast Guard on Monday as investigators first opened a hearing into the tragedy.

The investigation into the Titan submersible disaster, which resulted in the deaths of five people during a dive to the Titanic wreck in June 2023, has commenced.

The U.S. Coast Guard released a photo showing part of the submersible’s wreckage on the ocean floor as the hearing began in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The image depicts the submersible’s damaged tail cone, located several hundred yards from the Titanic. Investigators confirmed that a remotely operated vehicle found the debris on June 22, 2023, and determined that the submersible had experienced a catastrophic implosion caused by the extreme underwater pressure.

DNA Analysis Confirmed

DNA analysis confirmed the remains found belonged to the five victims, including Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, the company that operated the submersible.

The hearing aims to examine the events leading up to the incident, including the submersible’s mechanical and structural systems, emergency response efforts, and compliance with regulations.

It will also investigate the qualifications of the crew and any potential misconduct or negligence.
