CMA CGM, a leading global shipping company, has acquired five high-reefer container vessels from Dutch maritime operator Seatrade. These vessels—Seatrade Orange, Seatrade Red, Seatrade White, Seatrade Blue, and Seatrade Green—were previously on long-term charter to CMA CGM and are estimated to have been sold at around $30 million each.

The acquisition aligns with CMA CGM's fleet expansion strategy, mirroring the recent moves of industry competitors like MSC. With the purchase of these specialized refrigerated ships, the company aims to boost its operational capacity and service reliability across key routes, including connections to Australia, New Zealand, the US East Coast, and Europe.

CMA CGM has been actively growing its fleet by acquiring both newbuilds and secondhand vessels. This transaction comes as part of a broader industry trend of consolidating control over chartered ships, ensuring greater flexibility amid volatile freight markets.

With these additions, CMA CGM strengthens its position in the container shipping market, now operating nearly 3.8 million TEU in total capacity and holding a significant orderbook of new vessels under construction.
