Belgium-based marine contractor DEME has secured a contract to build an offshore wind terminal at the Port of Cuxhaven, Germany. The project will strengthen Cuxhaven’s position as a key industrial hub, focusing on handling heavy-duty loads for offshore wind farms.
Operated by Niedersachsen Ports (NPorts), the terminal will feature three berths, a 1,250-meter quay wall, and a 38-hectare storage area
DEME, partnering with Depenbrock and TAGU, will handle dredging and land reclamation works, reclaiming over 3 million cubic meters using trailing suction hopper dredgers, a backhoe dredger, and barges.
The project, beginning in early 2025, is set to be completed in three-and-a-half years. DEME has a history in Cuxhaven, previously delivering adjacent berths and serving as a base port for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm.
