Eletrobras and Ocean Winds to Explore Offshore Wind Projects in Brazil

Eletrobras and Ocean Winds have signed an agreement to assess offshore wind opportunities in Brazil, aiming to tap into the country’s renewable energy potential.

Brazilian energy giant Eletrobras and offshore wind specialist Ocean Winds have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the development of offshore wind farms in Brazil. This collaboration aims to leverage Brazil’s renewable energy potential as demand for clean energy rises globally.

Although Brazil is already the sixth-largest producer of onshore wind energy, the country currently lacks offshore wind infrastructure due to the absence of a regulatory framework. The partnership between Eletrobras, Latin America's largest power company, and Ocean Winds, a joint venture of Portugal’s EDP Renováveis and France’s Engie, aims to fill this gap.

Both companies emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative, with Ocean Winds highlighting Brazil’s long-term potential in renewable energy. Eletrobras director Leonardo Soares added that the cooperation will help promote cleaner energy sources, both locally and globally.

This agreement signals a step forward in diversifying Brazil’s energy portfolio and establishing a framework for offshore wind development.
