On September 11, 2024, at 19:15, the captain of a vessel sailing off the coast of Şarköy in the Marmara Sea reported that one of his crew members, Ganesh Govind, was missing.

The captain notified the Tekirdağ Regional Port Authority and the Turkish Coast Guard Command after the crew member, last seen at 10:40 a.m., could not be found on board.

Search and rescue efforts were immediately launched. For five days, the Şarköy Coast Guard Station Command conducted continuous operations, but no trace of the missing crew member was discovered.

Fourteen days after the search began, the Turkish Coast Guard found a lifeless body in the sea during routine inspections. It was confirmed that the body belonged to Ganesh Govind, the Indian crew member who had fallen overboard. His remains have been transferred to the morgue for further examination.
