Ørsted has signed an agreement to sell a 12.45% stake in four of its UK offshore wind farms to Brookfield for £1.745 billion (approx. DKK 15.7 billion). Brookfield’s acquisition includes stakes in Hornsea 1, Hornsea 2, Walney Extension, and Burbo Bank Extension, representing a combined 3.5 GW capacity.
The deal, expected to close by the end of 2024, will support Ørsted's ongoing farm-down strategy, enabling reinvestment in new assets. Brookfield’s investment in these fully operational assets under long-term contracts for difference (CfDs) also marks its first foray into UK offshore wind, complementing its renewable portfolio with a stable energy source.
Ørsted retains a 37.55% stake and will continue overseeing operations, highlighting its ongoing leadership in UK offshore wind capacity, which now exceeds 5 GW with another 5 GW in development.
