The Port of Miami is planning to develop a virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance cruise passenger experiences. According to Senior Strategy and Innovation Officer Chris Hudtwalcker, the assistant could be accessed via QR codes or booking links to address common inquiries and improve customer satisfaction.
In addition to passenger services, the port is advancing digital solutions for its growing container trade. Plans include a port community system to centralize cargo handling, enable real-time container tracking, and provide cargo owners with greater shipment visibility.
While challenges such as data-sharing resistance among stakeholders exist, the port sees these advancements as vital for maintaining a competitive edge. Future investments may include technology to measure and track the carbon footprint of shipping operations.
The Port of Miami is seeking partners and stakeholder collaboration to bring these digital initiatives to fruition.
