TotalEnergies EP Danmark, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, has reached full technical capacity at its Tyra II natural gas redevelopment project in the Danish North Sea. This milestone follows repairs on power transformers that delayed commissioning earlier this year. The Danish Underground Consortium, comprising TotalEnergies (43.2%), BlueNord (36.8%), and Nordsøfonden (20%), confirmed that all systems at Tyra II are now operational, enabling a ramp-up to maximum output before 2025.
Tyra II’s full operation marks a significant step toward Denmark’s energy independence, with expected annual production of 2.8 billion cubic meters. Ole Hansen, CEO of TotalEnergies EP Denmark, emphasized the priority of achieving safe, full production and making Denmark a net exporter of gas. The revamped Tyra facilities also promise a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to pre-overhaul levels.
The facility’s strategic importance extends beyond Denmark, potentially contributing approximately 6% of the EU’s natural gas production once peak output is achieved. Tyra II’s upgraded infrastructure aims to enhance efficiency and reduce operating costs, with Miriam Lykke of BlueNord highlighting its role in minimizing CO2 intensity.
TotalEnergies recently announced a gas condensate discovery in the Harald East area, set for export via Tyra, further reinforcing the hub’s significance in European energy supply.
