Spanish wind-assisted propulsion innovator bound4blue has secured a second contract with Dutch shipping firm Amasus to install its 22-meter eSAIL on a general cargo vessel. The retrofit will take place at the Astander Shipyard in Santander and is scheduled for completion by mid-2025.
This marks Amasus’ continued investment in sustainable technology after the successful deployment of two 17-meter eSAILs on the Eems Traveller in July 2023. The eSAILs autonomously generate propulsion by pulling air over their aerodynamic surface, reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and operational costs.
“Amasus is committed to a more sustainable shipping industry,” an Amasus spokesperson said. “Our decision to install eSAILs on the Eems Traveller has shown impressive results, and third-party validation from Lloyd’s Register will soon confirm the performance metrics.”
bound4blue's DNV-approved eSAIL technology offers a simple, reliable solution with minimal crew effort. With previous clients including Eastern Pacific Shipping, Odfjell, and Louis Dreyfus Company, the company is gaining traction across the industry.

The eSAIL system supports regulatory compliance with frameworks like the EU ETS and CII and typically delivers a return on investment within five years, making it ideal for retrofits and new builds across various ship types.
