New Chamber of Shipping Launched

The Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping was officially launched on Monday, aiming to reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a leading international shipping hub.

At the launch reception, Leung Chun-ying, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a founding member and adviser of the new organization, emphasized the institutional advantages of the “one country, two systems” framework as a unique asset for Hong Kong’s shipping industry.

Leung urged stakeholders to leverage Hong Kong's strengths and collaborate across shipping, trade, finance, professional services, and education to achieve shared objectives. He expressed a vision for integrating the strengths of the Chinese mainland to create a comprehensive national maritime ecosystem, while progressing towards higher value-added activities within the shipping sector.

With the right strategies in place, Leung believes that the potential for Hong Kong’s maritime sector is limitless.
