NKT Secures €1 Billion Cable Projects in Germany

Danish offshore cabling specialist NKT has won €1 billion in contracts under TenneT's framework agreement to deliver 525 kV HVDC cable systems for Germany's energy transition.

Danish offshore cabling expert NKT has been awarded two major contracts worth approximately €1 billion ($1.04 billion) under a multi-year framework agreement with German transmission system operator TenneT.

The projects—LanWin7 and part of NordOstLink—involve the supply of 525 kV XLPE HVDC on- and offshore power cable systems. NKT will handle the design, engineering, production, and installation of the cables both onshore and offshore.

The contracts are set to be called off in 2026-27, with commissioning planned for 2033-34. These projects aim to enhance Europe's energy transition by efficiently transporting offshore wind power from the North Sea to Germany's onshore grid.

This brings the total number of projects awarded to NKT under the framework agreement to five, which runs until 2028 and could extend to 2031.

“Applying our power cable technology to these additional projects in Germany will enable the energy transition in Europe," said Claes Westerlind, President and CEO of NKT.

These significant developments reaffirm NKT's role as a key player in advancing renewable energy infrastructure.
