Equinor has contracted the Deepsea Bollsta, a sixth-generation, harsh-environment rig owned by Northern Ocean Wind and operated by Odfjell Drilling, for drilling on the Norwegian continental shelf. The two-year contract, valued at $335 million, includes five optional one-year extensions and is set to begin in late 2025.

Equinor aims to sustain high production levels on the Norwegian continental shelf through 2035, highlighting the importance of drilling new wells and tapping into remaining resources in producing fields and exploration opportunities.

Odfjell, which already operates three rigs for Equinor, will add Deepsea Bollsta to its portfolio. Currently operating in Namibia, the rig has a proven track record in Norwegian waters.

Equinor plans to maintain an average of 25 active drilling operations and deliver up to 70 recovery wells and 30 exploration wells annually. This expansion reinforces its collaboration with Odfjell, praised for its safety and performance culture.
