Maersk has celebrated the arrival of its latest dual-fuel methanol container vessel, “A.P. Møller,” in Singapore. The vessel, named after the company’s founder, Arnold Peter Møller, is the ninth in Maersk's fleet capable of operating on methanol. This milestone marks a key moment in the company’s efforts to decarbonize the maritime industry.
The vessel was introduced with a naming ceremony attended by key figures, including Ms. Chan Su-Shan, the wife of Temasek Holdings' CEO, and government representatives. Maersk highlighted that “A.P. Møller” is part of a series of 18 large dual-fuel methanol vessels set to be delivered by 2025.
Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, the vessel has a capacity of 16,592 TEU and is the latest addition to Maersk’s fleet focused on sustainable shipping. The launch underscores Maersk’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing the energy transition in maritime transport.
Maersk’s decarbonization efforts are supported by collaborations with regional authorities, including Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority. The company continues to advocate for regulations that encourage the adoption of alternative fuels by closing the price gap between fossil fuels and green alternatives.
