Sweden-based AtoBaC Shipping has added Maximar, the fifth plug-in hybrid vessel, to its fleet as part of a major renewal program focused on sustainability and efficiency. The vessel was delivered on December 20, 2024, from Chowgule & Company shipyard in Goa, India, following its launch in September.

The Maximar is the latest in a series of twelve 5,350 dwt plug-in hybrid vessels ordered by AtoBaC Shipping. The company plans to take delivery of one vessel every quarter, with the final ship arriving by autumn 2026.

This new fleet includes previously delivered vessels Electramar, Stellamar, Ecomar, and Aquamar, with the sixth ship, Terramar, expected in early 2025. Each vessel is designed with hybrid propulsion, shore power connectivity, and ice class certification to ensure sustainable operations even in challenging conditions.

The ships, featuring a gross tonnage of 4,200, a length of 90 meters, and a width of 16 meters, also incorporate advanced battery technology. This innovation enables emission-free, silent port visits and reduces CO2 emissions by nearly 50% compared to traditional vessels, aligning with AtoBaC Shipping's commitment to eco-friendly maritime practices.

The ongoing fleet renewal underscores AtoBaC Shipping’s dedication to sustainable shipping solutions, setting new benchmarks for green maritime operations.
