Port of Savannah Records Strong October with Nearly Half a Million TEUs

The Port of Savannah recorded nearly half a million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in October, marking the third busiest month in its history, following 2021 and 2022.

Despite the strong growth, Georgia Ports President and CEO Griff Lynch noted that many customers continue to divert cargo to the U.S. West Coast amid ongoing contract negotiations.

In October, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) benefited from record volumes through the Appalachian Regional Port, which saw a 4.4% increase with 3,666 train lifts. For the first four months of fiscal year 2025 (July 1 to October 31, 2024), GPA transported 1.9 million TEUs, reflecting a 12.3% increase compared to the same period last year, an additional 211,320 units.

Colonel’s Island also saw strong performance, handling 68,569 RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) units in October, contributing to a 10.6% year-to-date increase with 300,647 units.

Overall, September marked another milestone with GPA handling 450,700 TEUs, the second busiest month on record, reflecting a 12% year-over-year growth.
